How Vectra works
The whole system in one page: tracker, cellular, our gateway, your dashboard.
A Vectra tracker is a small 4G LTE device wired into your asset. It reads position from GPS satellites, reads voltage and ignition from the wires you connect, and sends both to our servers over the cellular network. Everything you see in the dashboard is that stream, replayed and interpreted.
The chain, end to end
- 1The tracker gets a fix
GPS gives it a position, speed, and heading. Under a metal deck or inside a hull it may take a minute on first power-up; after that it holds a fix in seconds.
- 2It opens a connection to our gateway
Over its built-in SIM, using the JT808 protocol on a long-lived TCP connection. The connection staying open is what makes remote commands instant.
- 3It reports on a schedule
Every 15–30 seconds while the ignition is on, every 60 seconds while it is off, and hourly in storage mode. Reports are queued and re-sent if coverage drops, so a trip through a dead zone fills itself in.
- 4Our servers interpret it
Position becomes a trail; a trail crossing a zone boundary becomes a geofence event; a voltage slope becomes a charging state; a sudden drop with no motion becomes a wire-cut alert.
- 5You see it, and you can talk back
The dashboard and mobile app read the same data. Commands — including the ignition cut-off — travel back down the same open connection.
What you need
- One tracker per asset. They are not shared or multiplexed.
- A 12V or 24V power source on the asset. Boats, ATVs, vehicles, and most trailers all qualify.
- Cellular coverage where the asset operates. Reports buffer through gaps and upload on reconnect.
- An active subscription per tracker. Hardware without a subscription still powers on but stops reporting to your account.
There is no separate carrier account, no SIM to buy, and no data plan to manage. The subscription covers connectivity.
